Technology is a great advance of civilization, but there are some problems like using a cell phone turning it into silent mode and then cheating answers for a test or something like that. Also, the telephone, IMing, cell phone, etc, are all good for emergencies and have good uses but there lots of people who seem like they totally depend on them 24/7. In the past, in mathematics people had to memorize tons of things like the sin of various numbers or something, but people now depend on calculators for everything like adding two numbers, even.
I'm not against any of those things, I'm a cell phone, IM, calculator freak myself, but I try not to depend on them. What I'm trying to say is, has technology made us less smarter than in the past? There are statements that contradict that, but still, I was just thinking of the dangers of technology. What do you think?

When I was a kid, we had no air conditioners, no microwaves, no TV, no calculators, certainly no cell phones nor computers, and deodorant was a talcum powder type jazz that worked for about 6 minutes after which time people stunk. Most homes had indoor johns, but if you happened to be at the filling station and needed to go, it was an out-house affair that smelled something awful and swarmed with flies and wasps.
This afternoon, though, I'm sitting out 103 degree heat in air conditioned comfort, merrily wasting my time playing on the computer, with a wireless phone handy in case someone calls, a phone on a private instead of a party line (as your grandparents what a party line was), planning to nuke dinner later and eat in front of my TV that offers me about 80 channels to watch. Oh, yeah, if I want to know the square root of 13, I've got a calculator that will give it to me exactly instead of a slide rule that would give me an approximation.
Now, I personally think cell phones are the work of the Devil, and that it's regrettable that kids can no longer do long division by hand. But, given the choice of then or now, I'll take technology.

Technology is just a thing to be used and abused. It can be viewed as both at different times. It's not technology's fault that we use it for bad things,it's the person that's using it that's at fault.Yes,we do seem to use it a bit to much at times but the good uses for it will always beat out over the bad.

The few intelligent people are making life easier for the many idiots out there.
You are right in that people can simply rely on that bottled intelligence of the few that is captured in their technology. You are also right in that it is a street that goes both ways, good and bad.
That's all I can really say about that.

as with anything else technology has the potential for abuse. IN that so much of it is powered by and geared towards knowledge this is especially true of high tech.. cams, microphones can be bad, but in my neighborhood..I have a few kids who are bad.. my car has been vandalized several times..I now have CCTV and audio equipment in place along with a 500 cash reward for the arrest and conviction of the perps..

Oh, i comprehend what you mean...yet I make meal time a family participants affair...fortunately for me, they love cooking, so anytime I say, "youngsters want help contained in the kitchen!" I in easy words listen "precise now mommy!", you gotta prepare them from the start and that is the most important. Then all of us sit down and communicate about our accepted affairs. in my opinion I surely have 2 little geeks, yet despite the indisputable fact that the total family participants is complete of geeks and with that reported; we are all 'strolling zombies'! LOL

Definitely yes, if it is peace-oriented.
Definitely yes, because man takes full control of the technology.
Definitely yes, because it proves that man is intelligent.
