I've known a couple of people very casually with MS, and as far as I know it's diagnosed by MRI.

NO, MS is only diagnosed clinically and with a CT or MRI scan to look for lesions or "plaques" in the white matter of the brain. It is normal for some people in old age to get the occasional plaque, but if you are between 20 and 40 and have multiple lesions found on successive scans (in other words 1 scan show a plaque at point A, and scan number 2 a month later shows not only plaque at point A but also a plaque at point B) that is diagnostic for multiple sclerosis.

However, you can also do a lumbar tap (take spinal fluid) and look for a certain identifier known as immunoglobulin G bands. However this is a poor predictor and not diagnostic for MS.

See a neurologist, get a CT scan if you are concerned.

PS: there is NO brain wave test for MS - that is just plain wrong. What the person answering below me had was an EEG or electroencephalogram that looks for things like seizure activity.

No
The only way to diagnosis MS is by the symptoms the person is having and an MRI. When someone has MS the immune system attacks the nerves in the brain and spinal cord ( it destroys the covering (myelian sheath) that covers and protects the nerves) This leaves scars in the brain and spinal cord. Hope this helps

NO YOU NEED TO HAVE A MRI AND HAVE A BRAIN WAVE TEST DONE WHERE THEY PUT LITTLE ELECTRODES ON YOUR HEAD AND SHOW YOU PICTURES TO SEE HOW THE BRAIN REACTS
