My partner travels a lot due to his job: a few months here, a few months there...but a weekend relationship is not for me...I travelled with him before but it was difficult to find work for me...can anybody give me info about working from home (wherever that may be) or any other idea that would lead to some sort of solution? Is there a network of temping agencies? Is there anybody out there facing the same dilemma????

Unless you're a consultant with an established list of clients, there are very few legitimate work-from-home opportunities, particularly if you're travelling from town to town every few months. Every town has some temp agencies, but you have to have skills that are in demand; office work, accounting and customer service seem to be popular. If you did your homework as far in advance of a move as possible, you could contact many agencies and get your resume to them before you land. Don't depend on any one chain of agencies to provide work - hit as many as possible since many are independent, and the jobs vary from town to town.

You could also look for work in restaurants or retail - they're used to short-time employees and there is decent money to be made (in exchange for hard work, certainly!)

I wish you luck - I think it's a great opportunity to see and experience different places and I'm sure your partner will really appreciate having you along!

Temping can offer a lot of flexibility, depending on the needs of the areas you'll be traveling through.
I would think that any of the national/international temp agencies like Kelly or Randstad should be able to forward your resume and work history to the nearest branch for you whenever you move. I'd definitely discuss this with the agency rep when you sign up, and ask how moving from one branch to another affects benefits. Some offer vacation pay, etc. after you've worked a certain number of hours, so you'd want to make sure that the assignments you worked for the branch where you start out would still "count" with the branch in the next town and so on.

A bigger question is, are you happy or unhappy where you are now? Do you LIKE to travel that much, relationship or no? It would be pretty ironic if you do this to keep your relationship together, and then your resentment about it ends up wrecking your relationship.

Can you write better than you did here? Take photos? Consider becoming a freelance journalist. If you have a permanent mailing address (even at your parents' home) you could take a distance education course about writing or journalism and then apply your skills. Lots of community colleges have weekend classes about how to sell your writing and photos- you should look into these. I have an online travel site, and I was contacted by someone from the New York Times to provide background research for their article about the place I was currently living in. They found me just from my online homepage!

consider freelance/telecommute jobs. They go with you everywhere!

As someone on the road a lot you may find a laptop computer your best ally in your adventure, as well as a wireless card to help keep your dial up costs down.

Yes some temp agencies are national (I believe Kelly is one), but they may not have what you like where he's heading. Nonetheless if you know ahead of time where he's going you could check out local job sites to see if anyone is looking for fill in help.

We are all over the US and in several other countries, so it would be something that would allow you to travel with him and still bring in an income. I have been working from home with a great company that has been in business for a little over twenty years and have been members in good standing with the BBB ever since they opened their doors. They were also awarded the BBB's Hall of Fame award at the end of 2005. I don't have to host parties, stock, sell or deliver products. I don't even have to worry about collecting any money. The Pertemps, Reed and Hays Employment Agencies have offices countrywide.

At one stage my brother was moving around a lot - following his Girlfriend while she worked for a Chain of Ice Rinks - and the Agencies I mentioned above found him a constant stream of work, some it wasn't very interesting, but at least he had money coming in.

depending on how long you are gone consider renting out your flat or house (assuming you own). I have afreind who travelled round Australia doing that. You can get letting agencies to do all the tedious bits.

temping agencies. search on yell.co.uk in the area you are thinking of going to - there are loads of temp agencies everywhere.

You aren't going to get a JOB that will let you quit all the time or relocate.anywhere your honey is.
You have to make one.
Write songs, write for a newspaper/magazine(freelance), make doilies or hats, sell stuff on Ebay or at other online auctions, do billing or insurance forms that you can do on line, rob banks, or sell drugs.
It really depends on what you ENjoy doing, and can do, and can find a market for.
My honey traveled for work for 17 years, (Navy) and we did just fine. Home was a wonderful relief for him and he was very content to have one.

You need to find someone new. Relationships are about being and planing with someone. He wants to travel for his income, you can't. Solution is find someone new without making a bid deal of it all.
