Is it odd to be in your late teens and to have never had a boyfriend/girlfriend?

It might be "odd" but that doesn't mean anything's wrong with it. "Odd" is a word used by people in the majority to express their feeling that what they're doing is right and that you are wrong or somehow falling short of their expectations.

Not all that long ago, the Earth was a huge, nearly endless flat thing that the entire Universe revolved upon, and if you got to the edge, you fell off or were eaten by sea serpents and dragons.

Even less long ago, it would never be possible for man to fly, and if you thought that you could someday communicate with others without leaving your house, or you believed that someday you'd be able to hear music without an orchestra present, you were burnt at the stake.

Now we have seven billion people who all think you should have your first girlfriend/boyfriend at fourteen-to-sixteen and your first child within two to seven years of that. Right.

I didn't have my first real girlfriend until I was almost nineteen and I was a virgin until twenty-one. I still have no children of my own. Odd? It's all a matter of perspective. I don't have my entire paycheck going to 2.5 ex-wives to cover 6.125 children, which seems to be about the norm for guys of my age and clique, each one of those wives and kids driving me bonkers and vice-versa.

Countless philosophers and artists, especially writers, poets, and painters, lived their entire lives in celibacy. Are their lives and contributions less noble than those of the average couple on the Jerry Springer show? It will happen at the right time and place. Nature picks the place, but you pick the time. You'll be just fine.

Throw off the confines of social mores and convention and other self-imposed forms of captivity and be free! Do whatever is right for you and don't let your opinion of yourself ever be based upon or swayed by or lowered even once by what anyone else thinks.

I can survive just fine on a one-percent approval rating as long as I'm somewhere in that one percent. So can you.

No, it is not odd. I have a friends who didn't have a first boyfriend until we were 21. She was a pretty girl, she was just a late bloomer. Everyone develops socially and romantically at different times.

No, I was my boyfriends first girlfriend and he was 19. He didn't want to date a lot if they weren't the right one for him. He and I have been together for 3 years now. It's a wonderful relationship!

No. Some girls/guys just don't think it is a priority. I had more fun hanging out with my friends. I didn't have to worry about getting pregnant, or getting some disease.
