First of all, Why did he change from R12 to R414A? If the system is not cooling, changing the refigerant will not solve the problem. Cheap fixes don't always work. Either the orface screen is plugged or the Receiver Dryer is bad. Ford have problems with the O rings going bad and leaking. Take it to a Reputable AC Repair Shop and have them check it out. Take it to someone you can "TRUST". I have had several Fords in my life. Another thing is check the Fan Clutch and make sure it is working right. If you are not getting enough air flow across the condenser it will make the high side pressure go up and it shuts the system down. Another thing check to see if there are leaves in the Blower Fan housing. You'll have to take out the Blower Fan out and check. Is the AC compressor coming on when the A/C is on? Check for fuses.
I hope this will help you.

Could be several things....if he put R414 in it, he should know what he's doing...never heard of it but R404 yes. Doesn't matter. What were the pressure readings? Sounds like you have a bad expansion valve. Those trucks sometimes had problems with the evaporators leaking. They cost a few hundred bucks for a new one but they are all aluminum and it's a one time fix. Is the system leaking? Did your friend vaccum it down? Need more information. Good luck.

You can't put a different type in one and expect it to work properly. A/C's are manufactured to work with only that 1 type of freon.
A garage will need to take it out and put the proper freon in. If you let it out into the air, that's against the 'Clean Air Act' (Federal Offense)
