There IS no "first place" -- fortunately! Classical music shows how adherence to certain criteria can rosonate in the human soul: to be able to appreciate Classical music is a "tool" -- aparticular skill. Jazz is the other way around, usually: jass is driven by the human soul rather than the reverse. The ability to appreciate jazz reflects a philosophic approach to the yearnings of man. Some Classical movement "slips" into the role of jazz more easily: Debussy's "Clair de Lune" is NOT so much a Classical form of music resonating with some human angst (or maybe nostalgia) - instead it is music written in the throes of those human emotions. It doesn't picture moonlight -- it almost IS moonlight. Similarly, jazz -- even "ragtime" -- is dictated by the human spirit and gives only a brief nod in the direction of rules of form. The two are diametrically opposed, and both serve us well in their appointed role.

That's a hard one...probably jazz. I can do more with it in the background. I mostly use classical music when I'm trying to think.

Well, it's all a personal choice isn't it ? We don' have to put any type of music over another. It depends on my mood as to what I listen to at any particular time. Blues, Classical, Jazz, etc., in my mind are equal to each other although I do have favourite pieces for each genre.

But for me it would be the dentist before jazz as well, I just don't get it.

Jazz to me is a group of people randomly banging & blowing there instruments it doesnt even have a tune.
