If your going to a regular DR. for a routine physical, the extent of "looking inside you" is eyes ears and throat. Generally they dont do pelvic exams. I am sure they will let your mom in the room with you if that would make you feel better.

Why are you not comfortable? Are you afraid of what they'll find - like a horrible disease or something? Or does it just weird you out that someone would choose to look at "hoo-has" all day?

If you're afraid of a horrible disease - chances are, you're healthy and they're not gonna find one.

If you're just weirded out, go meet a doctor or two on your insurance. Especially if there's one who specializes in your age group. Many of them will speak to you without examining you first. (Everyone will be clothed!) They'll be able to explain EVERYTHING they'd do during the exam, step by step, soup to nuts. They'll answer any questions you have. When you have the exam, a nurse will be in the room too. If you're worried that they'll tell your mom if you'd had sex before - don't worry. They can't tell her no matter how many times she asks. (They'd be breaking the law if they told her unless you said in writing that it was ok that they tell her.) Ask the doctor or someone else in the office if you don't believe me.

As for privacy - your mom probably just wants to make sure you're healthy -especially if she's got health issues, or someone else in your family does. Humor her. =)

The physical is nothing to be afraid of. It's a little uncomfortable but it's for your best interest. The doctor(s) will respect your privacy. They won't discuss your diagnosis with your mom if u don't want them to. It's always good to know whats going on with your body. So many diseases have no warning signs.

I think its very important to take care of your health and you can never be too young to start . Fear is something can get in the way of doing things in your life that you want or need to do. And especially the ones like this one that you don't want to do. Sweetie..maybe a woman Dr would be better for you right now. She would be very understanding and would take the time to put you at ease...good luck and keep us posted...

If your mom wants you to you really don't have a choice. Besides wouldn't you like to know that everything is ok with your body or do you want to have some disease and not know about it.

Good for your mom.
