I feel just like you... I f I couldnt understand it before I had my son, now that Im a mom I understand it even less...
When I see my 2 month old peacefuly sleeping, or when I see his gummy smile, I cant understand how can people hurt such a delicate beautiful creature... I just feel like hugging him, kissing him all over and protect him from everything out there...!!!

I couldn't tell you why someone would hurt a child. But in my opinion a person who hurts a child is lowest form of life on earth. I have a four year old and I love him more than life itself. The only thing I want to do is protect him and keep him safe. I guess thats the paternal instincts of any good person talking. Cherish those first years with your daughter because like someone told me before they fly bye so fast.

Mental Illness can cause an otherwise sane person to do something we would consider insane. That is why when people are diagnosed, they should continue taking medications. Some people should be required to take medications and be tested to make sure they've complied.
It is always difficult to see things from the point of view of a person who has a mental illness if you yourself have not been diagnosed as such. Research the illnesses and case studies. You'd be amazed.

I wish there was an easy answer to this. There isn't.
Some cases are a chemical imbalance thig - like postpartum depression and, in extreme cases, postpartum psychosis. The only way to control that is if the problem is recogized and help is adminstered to the mom ASAP.
Some people aren't meant to be parents - either by choice (like me. I'm the COOLEST Auntie in the world, but I have no desire for one of my own.) or by lack of information/education. (Like the teenage moms.)

I would never do something to harm my child either, but I do understand it. It's called SEVERE post-partum depression. Either the baby wasn't expected or wanted upon finding out the Mother was pregnant or the Mother/Father is having a terrible time adapting to parenthood. It's happening more than you might think and it's heartbreaking!

It is a question we will never know the answer to...I think whether Andrea Yates is sane or not should not matter. Even though she will have to live with what she did the rest of her life, I think she deserves the death sentence. If you are not sane enough to realize that you are killing your own children, you should not be able to live.
Ergo, this is all opinion...so all you people that want to hate...keep it to yourself.

I have no clue how they could do horrible things. my daughter is a blessing to me also. she is 16yr old now, she wants to go to college. and she is a good kid.
sometimes depression is bad for some moms, but I dont believe its an excuse to kill them(like andrea yates).
and how susan smith could drown her boys in their car seats. I just cant understand this world. or understand how these mothers could do this to precious children that only wanted their moms to give them love.
my child is my whole world!!!

I feel the same way as you and I often wonder the same thing. As a mom the instinct is to love and protect I just cant understand why someone would hurt thier own kid.
