TEFL (actually, its only TEFL in the U.S., it'd be TESOL if you went abroad to teach it) has a future... its just not a well-paying future in Europe. I myself plan to teach English and western-style Management in Shanghai once I complete my Masters degree- China is practically the new world superpower all ready, and it would be good to have contacts in the country... perhaps learn a little Mandarin so that you have the edge when they finish building their infrastructure... seeing as how they practically bought out U.S. debt (meaning that U.S. taxpayers will be sending their money to Beijing for the next century or two). TEFL has a bright future in a world trying to compete in today's market, China knows it, and is spending a whole lot of money to teach its students the language of international trade and business. However, it won't last forever.
Most people in Spain worth a dime can all ready speak English, and well. Unfortunately, prospects aren't quite as great there.

I'm studying English as a Seconday Language (ESL) in Puerto Rico. Here in Puerto Rico there's a lack of great English teachers and theres a lot of demand on this field.
The only con is the pay.I dont know about Spain but in Puerto Rico Public School teachers have an income around $1,200 - $1,800, very little compared to most schools in the US. Private school teachers have lower incomes.

Probably one of the most useful qualifications you can get for yourself in this day and age. There are 100's of language schools here in Spain and you could find yourself a job very easily. Not sure how far you can go in terms of "career" though.

No, we would desire to coach young ones the thank you to be grammatically nicely suited, as a results of fact it fairly is an exceedingly clever life potential to have (even nevertheless its a kick interior the pants to benefit). Take this occasion: 2 aspiring company adult males are interviewed for a similar merchandising and marketing place in a comparatively prestigious merchandising company. between the interviewees has destructive grammar, the different speaks very eloquently. Who gets the interest? the guy who speaks nicely probably. same ingredient may be made for math. Calculators can preform especially much all mathematical equations in recent times, yet we are nonetheless going to coach them addition, subtraction, multiplication, branch, and what no longer.

There is, and there will always be. Although I don't know about Spain, I think you can have a good career in ELT in most parts of the world.

I've had a long career of teaching of English in Latin America. It isn't a very good way to get wealthy, but it is a good living.

As English is still widely use, I think there is still a market for it. However the market share might be getting diluted as there are more and more graduates joining in.

Do it for the love, not the money. Be very careful where and what you sign too.
