Curriculum Vitae. It's a fancy term for resume. Usually professionals with post-graduate degrees like to show all of the relevant (or irrelevant) research and publications with which they have been involved. A CV provides the opportunity for them to show off.
My boss at the hospital used to joke about the 'catapult method' of evaluating who would be hired. The heaviest CV would supposedly fly the shortest distance and therefore meant that person had the most relevant experience. Yes, it was worth many laughs.

Curriculum Vitae, as one of the answerers mentioned it is another word for resume. However, the differences is that Resume tends to be catered towards industry experience and used for job hunting while CVs are mainly used for applying for research or academic positions/jobs. Although the same information can be entered the resume is focused on actual experiences and how it was applied in business while CV is focused on what you learned.

Well, in the academic world, it means "curriculum vitae", or life's work. It's essentially an academic resume that lists all the coursework, studies, and writings a person has accomplished.

If you are referring to the law, CV is curriculum vitae, basically like a resume for the expert witness. If you aren't talking about the law I don't know, sorry.
