I am 32 and have been happily married for 11 years. My best friend is a single girl and we have been best friends for several years. My wife has no problem with it at all, and they are good friends too. My family has taken my friend in and considers her part of the family... I even introduce her as my sister because that's what she is to me. So, after all this time, why do people continue to question the relationship and insist that there is more going on here than "just friends"? I tend to blow it off most of the time, but it really upsets her when people question us. What do I say to these people?

I've had the same problem. Alot of my friends are guys. My husband has no problem with it, he has women friends that he eats lunch with as well and talks on the phone with. I deal with it by not dealing with it. I don't feel as though I owe anyone an explanation but my spouse. It's not anyone's business. Assuming is part of our society and people assume all sorts of things so I'm not bothered by people who don't know me or REALLY care about me making assumptions about me. Don't give it any merit. You, your wife, and your friend know the truth and that is all that matters.

Tell them to get their minds out of the gutter. It's none of their business what the girl is to you. She's a good friend, and all the people who know you, friends, wife and family all know that.
So keep doing what you are doing, and to hell with those nosey creeps.
As long as you let it upset you, they are winning, if you just ignore them, you win. Who gives a hoot what some stranger thinks anyway.
The ones that do matter, are all fine with it, as you should be too.

Just tell them that it is none of their business. I have had several male friends, with no string attached, and even had a male room mate. I would not worry about what other people think, it is your life and as long as your wife understands the friendship, then who care about everyone else... Tell your friend to relax and not worry about what people will say... maybe everyone else is just jealous of what the two of you have...
