I work with young mothers of infants so I deal with this often. First, 1 month is a little young for cereal. If you feel the baby is not getting enough offer more milk or more often. Second, putting cereal in any bottle other than a cereal feeder is considered force feeding. Once you feel your baby is ready for cereal spoon feed him/her. Cereal mixed with breast milk or formula is the best food to start with on a baby but do it with a spoon and not in the bottle. Good luck!

Every baby is different. My first didn't get cereal until 5 1/2 mo. My second started getting it as early as a month. She spit up constantly (we have a flap on the top of our stomach and some babies aren't fully strong enough to stay down so every time the stomach clenches to digest the food it shoots back up) and our pediatrician said to put 1 tsp. in because it actually weighs the food down and makes sure she GETS the nutrition.
Every mom should take care to hold off on solids of any kind as long as possible because it IS what is best for the baby and rice cereal which is the #1 for introducing a baby to solids is still empty calories and will fill your baby but does not provide the nutrition you baby needs. If the baby has any issue that is causing problems try a soy milk like Isomil they may have an inability to digest milk proteins easily and I know Isomil works I grew up on and I STILL drink it (I know ewww gross lol) and so does my youngest. And if that doesn't help and the issue still exists and a small amount of rice cereal will help it then THAT is what's best for the baby. Whatever makes sure that the baby gets the MOST nutrients needed for their growth and development...Even ENFAMIL has created formula for INFANTS with cereal already in it you should check that out below.
The most important thing is to make sure that the lil angel is as healthy as possible.

Ask your pediatrician. It's more common to wait until babies are several months old, and then they're usually fed cereal with a spoon. Years back (in the 70's) was pretty standard to introduce cereal through a bottle.

the best food you can give to your baby is breastfeeding, but if you can't just give baby formula without any cereal. You should start with cereal when the baby is 4-6 months old. At 1 month old the baby doesn't have the requiered enzymes to digest more solid foods than milk.

My pediatrician advised me against this with both of my kids. Most peds don't want you even starting on cereal until about 4 months (although some let you start a little earlier).
I can't remember why I wasn't supposed to put cereal in a bottle, but I know this was a big no-no.

No way. Do not do that. They cannot handle this. Wait until the baby is about 4 months old before you start with rice cereal.

Newborns really should not be eating cereal or any other baby foods until they are around four to six months old.
Young babies would not benefit from solid foods for many reasons. To start, they are not developmentally ready to deal with swallowing solids. A baby is unable to move solid food from the front to the back of the mouth for swallowing. Instead he tends to gag due to the extrusion reflex with which he is born. Young babies cannot break down the complex molecules in many proteins, fats and carbohydrates, so solid food may pass right through, or worse, cause unnecessary GI distress. Research indicates that children may develop food allergies if solids are introduced too early. Formula and breast milk provide the perfect balance of nutrients that he needs.
Somewhere between four and six months, but probably closer to six months, your baby will be ready for solid foods. By that age, he will be able to move food to the back of his mouth to swallow and his digestive system will be better able to handle solids. You baby will give you signs he is ready for solids. To start, he will be much more aware of his surroundings. He may reach out for your food, put objects in his mouth, watch you closely as you eat and seem hungry after feedings.
The best first food is usually an iron-fortified rice cereal. It will provide the iron that is now necessary in his diet, and is a grain least likely to precipitate an allergic reaction. Initially, starting solids is just for the practice of eating and swallowing. Start with very small amounts. One baby-sized bite of cereal at the first feeding is enough. Gradually increase the cereal to about two tablespoons per feeding.
Soon the cereal will become an important part of his diet. After your baby is well-established on rice cereal (mixed with formula or breast milk) you can begin to offer pureed fruits and vegetables, waiting about a week between each new food to check for problems. Offer new foods at breakfast or lunch. If he has a reaction after a dinner feeding, you could be in for a sleepless night. You should avoid pureed meats until he is at least seven or eight months old, since their protein content may be too high for younger babies. In the early stages of solids, make sure the food is on the runny side. After baby becomes more adept at swallowing you can increase the consistency and texture.

I did it for all 3 of my children. Many Dr.s will tell you not too, but my pediatrician said it was okay, assuming that the child is otherwise healthy. Use rice cereal and use just enough to thicken the milk or formula a little bit. It should still flow through the bottle's nipple easily.

NO. NEVER PUT CEREAL IN A BABY BOTTLE. DO NOT FEED A ONE MONTH OLD SOLID FOOD. If you are actually considering this talk to your pediatrician and they will give you a time table for feeding. START at six months.
