I spilled gas on my clothes when I filled up gas. What should I do to deal with the clothes? Just do the normal laundary?

I answered a question like this a few weeks ago. And the lady was pleased with the results. she said cloths were like new.
Dry clean, Dry cleaning gets the oil out and that will take all the smell out. If your not able to take them to the cleaners, I would soak them in Dawn dish soap in something outside, then hang them in sun to dry, if this gets the smell out then I would go ahead and wash them in the machine and dry them.

Good Luck

I had that happen to me while out on a service trip.... first thing I did upon getting back to the motel, was throw the pants into the tub, and turned the shower on.... let it completely soak the clothes. This helps get any remaining gasoline out of the clothes in a hurry... then you can wash them as normal... but let them air dry, outside, after the first washing. (JUST in case you have any remaining gasoline left in the clothes)... by the time they air dry after washing the first time, there shouldnt be any more fuel left in the clothes, and you can then wash and dry as normal.

Depending on the fabric, and dyes used... you may see some bleaching as a result of the fuel. Gasoline won't hurt cotton any (like jeans), but some of the fibers made from plastic may break down (nylon, polyester, etc).

Good Luck!

You should not put flammable materials (such as gas, or other fuels) in your washing machine. Thankfully, gasoline is highly volatile, and if you let your clothes air out for a few hours, it will have "Dried" away enough that you can't smell it anymore. It should then be safe to wash. If you're nervous, you could hand-wash it once before giving it a run through.

Line dry when you're done. You REALLY don't want gas in the drier. Next time you wash them, things should be back to usual.

Do NOT put it in with any other clothes. Though it probably dried, it may still smell and even though you are washing it, whatever is in that load will get that smell too. I know it seems like a waste to just wash one outfit, but you'll be happier in the long run! Lol..

As for cleaning it, soak the affected area in detergent for about 15mins and then do your laundry as normal. Before you put it in the dryer though smell it to see if it still reeks of gas. You may have to wash it twice.

well, most of it should have evaporated. any residues are probably greasy, and you may need a special oil remover to get it out. try drycleaning.
