is there any way to understand what kind of a person he/she we are dealing with?

I don't think so. You can get a bit of an idea by browsing around the person's profile and seeing what kind of questions s/he asked and answered. But remember, the reason that things like this are so popular is because they are anonymous. You can easily hide yourself and be whoever you want. You can lie and nobody would know. Deceptions are easy.

I guess, if you really wanted to know, just start a correspondence with the person. I have learned that even a few brief messages tell me a lot about the person hiding behind his/her monitor screen on the other side.

I guess only time will tell. It is hard being truthful, good hearted, and trusting because I expect that everyone else is likewise. I have learned the hard way that others are not always what they seem. Still, I try to see the good in everyone, and expect it even, until I am proven wrong.
