I was wonderin' if amps/boosters/kickers were legel for Ham Radios in the U.S.? I know it's illegel for cb radios. Just didn't know if it was the same for Ham Radios. And I was also wonderin' whats the most top of the line Ham Radio out now? And is there any good websites to check this stuff out? I don't have my operators license yet... just lookin' into this stuff. Any help would be great.

And no I don't want to use ebay, I want to buy new cause no telling how well the stuff works on ebay. The only thing I'd think about buyin' on ebay would be collector cards.

RF Amplifiers are legal in the USA for licensed radio amateurs to operate if they hold Technician, General, Advanced, or Amateur Extra Class licenses. Some parts of the amateur radio spectrum are limited in the amount of power output an amateur radio transmitter can deliver regardless of class of license. Broadly speaking, given the license restrictions mentioned above, an amateur radio operator may use any combination transmitter and amplifier such that the input power to the final output stage is 1000 watts (1 kw) continuous, or 2000 watts (2 kw) peak on modes such as single sideband where the average power is still 1 kw, but the peaks may reach 2 kw. It is not unusual at all to find amateurs operating on 3.8 to 4.0 Mhz using 500 to 1000 watt transmitters. In contests many amateur radio operators use maximum power and very directional antennas to increase their effective communications to other hams. On the other side of the issue, many hams take great pleasure in operating with the least power possible as a challenge to the art of radio communications. Successful two way contacts have been maintained at transmitted power levels below a fraction of a watt.

Yes, amps are legal but a good antenna rocks. The Icom 7800 is the current top of the line radio. I hope you've got real deep pockets. Check out qrz.com. Lots of good information, forums and practice tests.

When studying for your amateur radio license test, you will come across the power output limits.

Amplifiers are legal, but many hams have never owned one.

Power isn't everything. A good antenna does wonders.
