Very easy way to tell if it's a wheel bearing or not. Next time your out driving, wait til your not around any other cars and swerve back and forth in the road. when you do this, you put all the load on one tire or the other. So if you swerve to the left and the noise goes away, it's your rights side wheel bearing. If you swerve to the right, and the noise goes away. the left side wheel bearing is bad.

bearing recall was for rear bearings not front...
I agree with the michael answer.. but my guess is bearing is just shot completely in wheel.. seen lot more of them than tranny (trannts hold up pretty good on focuses)

Tough to seperate these two, so if I had to pick, I'd try replacing the wheel bearing first. It should be much cheaper shot at fixing the problem.

There was a recall on the wheel bearing with Ford Focus cars. I drive one myself. Call your local Ford dealership and ask the specifics. You may be able to get it fixed for free.

You would have to put the car in the air and listen for where the noise comes from. Once the car is up you can use a screwdriver like a stethoscope to listen to it.
