Could someone explain, in simple terms why Islamic extremists want to attack Britian and America?

I'm bad at politics but I'd like to understand a little of the history behind the attacks if someone could explain to me that would be great!

Their lives of the minority extremists are governed by religious ideals and one of these ideals is that Islam is the only true religion. All non Islamic persons and countries are fair game for attack and as the US and the UK are prominent non Islamic countries that are often perceived to be anti Islamic there is a lot of bitterness and hatred towards them. In the opinions of the extremists they are the infidel and must be destroyed at all costs.

The way Western countries operate, their general Christian and capitalist views are almost opposite of what the Islamic Fundamentalists want. The fundamentalists want everyone to convert and become Muslim (or their particular sect) and to convince people of this they will bomb/terrorise/die in the belief this will enable them to take control and gain entry to paradise. The West will go to certain lengths to prevent this, but at the same time, sell them arms, and allow extremists to preach/practise.

This is a VERY simplistic view and you will receive much better answers, but basically it is a war over religion, as most are. Two religions, both think they are right and are willing to go to war to prove it and gain control/power.

First off you must understand the nature of religious extremists. Regardless of their religion.
Just as David Koresch and James Jones were Chrsitian extremists. So too are those who attacked the WTC and the London underground.

Because we are there. Most of the extemist believe the western world is corrupt and evil. Mostly they are right. I love my country and wouldn't leave for anything, but we do have a seek and destroy mentality sometimes. They do not want us forcing ideas, policy, or anything on thier children, wives, culture, beliefs, etc. They also believe we are sucking thier resources dry and giving nothing in return except making the royal families wealthy. And when the resource runs out, we will leave and leave them to die in the desert.

Most of this is true. Have you seen Syriana? I realize it is a movie from Hollywood, but it makes a few good points about our need for oil and we'll do anything to get. I can't blame them. Some of US policy in the mideast is not that good.

America & Britian are doing this all the time in the Arabic land from more than 150 years...
I don't support those attacks but there are reasons for them...if those two countries stop thier terrorism nothing will happen to them

I feel it has less to do with western religion, but rather, western culture. With things like MTV, short skirts, constant sex on the television, etc, we are living a life which directly conflicts with their set of beliefs. Read up on Islam and decide for yourself whether or not it is possible for our two cultures to combine without conflict...my belief is no, it is not, and war is inevitable.

Because most of Western Europe and the Americas are Christian, which are considered infidels and therefore deserving of death.
