It is my favorite movie, and I wanted to see if anyone else likes it as much as I do!

I agree it is SO awesome that it is a true story!!! That is why it is my favorite. Yes the end is pretty sad, but that is what happened. Eventually the RAF found the people who murdered the 50, and they were either hanged, recieved long prison terms, commited suicide, or died in the war. You should read the book (by Paul Brickhill) it is even better than the movie!!

Not my fav. but up there. What's great is that was based on a true story. Although some of the charaters were either composites or made up, the details of the escape were true.

Plus Steve McQueen, Lawerence Olivier, James Garner, Donald Pleasance...you couldn't ask for a better cast.

It's my favorite Steve McQueen movie. I normally don't like war movies, but I like any movie that tells a story about overcoming hardship and adversity, even if success is not obvious. Just the struggle to maintain free will is worth it!

The Great Escape is my favorite movie too. I watch it all the time and have a copy of it. Steve McQueen is just so cool in that movie.

I like it alot, but as far as war movies, "Victory" with Stalone & "Kelly's Heros" with Eastwood are on top.
The Great Escape is still in the top 5.

I saw it recently and I didn't think it held up. I liked it, but it's not even close to making it on my top 50 movie list.
