Pro is that ideally it's custom tailored. Con, you can't effectively make a fist collectively when needed. It's a divide and rule scheme but so long as you end up on the top of the division you should be alright.

The best would really be a mix of the two. For the simple fact that every person is part social and part solitary.

PROs - Some people, without an individual and immediate reward, won't perform to their fullest potential. Making them personally responsible for certain specific goals makes some people work harder.

CONs - Often, when everyone is focusing on their individual goals, teamwork is lacking, and the company's most important goals may not be met.
