Hi i've been looking at motherboards and it says DDR2 667 Standard (pc5400). the motherboards have 800mhz front side bus. Now does that mean it only supports up to 667mhz or would these be able to use the 800mhz ram?

Don't get front side bus and RAM speed confused, they are seperate things. If it says DDR2 667, then that is the RAM it uses. You could put the pc6400 in it, but it would still run at the lower speed that the board is rated at. But there are plenty of boards that support pc6400 out there.

To get a motherboard that supports DDR2 800 I think the only ones are the new Intel 965 chipset, those motherboards also support the new core 2 duo processors

you could use the faster ram but if the motherboard only supports 5400 speeds thats what the ram will run at unless overclocked .... thats probably what theyre selling the faster ram as ....im not sure about the new intel chips but the memory controller is built in to the new amd chips and its its speed is not a limiting factor ... the intels were still using the northbridge and a seperate memory controller so its not quite as fast but still shouldnt hold the memory back. So the idea on the ram is to overclock ur machine and the ram will work at the faster speeds. ... thats what im doing now .. running ddr540 in a board advertized as supporting ddr400 but to get the 540 speed i am overclocking ... if i wasnt overclocking the ram would be running stock ddr400 speeds even though it is higher rated.
