To keep living off the government because as far as I know you will only get money from the government for a certain amount of time. This **** pisses me off, because I got my own kids to take care of and they can't afford to take care of theirs, and us tax payers are the ones paying for there kids.

Other than Georgie Girl that has answered this question...I am shocked at how ignortant individuals are of the welfare system in America. First, you can only collect welfare for a total of 56 months and that is for your lifetime! You can not collect for more than a two year period at any one time. You can have 100 children and it does not make any difference as to how much you will receive.
By the way the sw in sw student stands for social work...
Penny S has a point, too!!!

Because welfare recipient has become a career/lifestyle choice. The stigma was removed because we cared more about people's feelings than what was actually good for them. Food stamps now come on a debit card so no one can tell the difference.
So if recieving welfare is a job, that must be how you get a raise.

I knew someone who wanted kid after kid and live off of welfare. It just sickens me what some people will do to screw the system. They are just lazy and don't want to work and they don't have to if they keep on having kids, so they technically get free money by giving birth over and over again.

Because they will get more money each month in their check, more foodstamps etc. They don't try to improve their life. They are content to live off the state. I personally know of someone who has 3 children, 2 different fathers of the kids and is annoyed that she cannot get more money than she is already getting. She wants a better apartment, a better car and wants to do nothing to try and get it on her own. That is what you would call "irresponsible and lazy"

because they won't work and they are bored, so they_**** each other to pass the time. Unfortunately welfare cases are also so_******* stupid that they don't know when to pull out. I think welfare is the real reason behind AIDS.

It buys them another couple of years....makes me sick....I use to work for a pedi clinic run by the state..I was a single mom and the welfare moms use to drive up in brand new cars and their babies had on Nike sneakers....$50 freakin sneakers for 3 month old babies....I use to say to myself...it's nice to live in America...sarcastically of course....I had to buy my kids shoes at K Mart....and I walked to work....Once I even overheard a mom say "Ohhhh I have a college degree that the state paid for but I don't feel like going to work...I don't have to I get all this....why kill myself...
Welfare was started for people going through rough times...a temporary gift....not intented to be handed down from generation to generation..wtf...

I KNOW!!!!! i wish i ran the government- cuz in order to get any sort of public assistance- you would have to show proof of being either on the pill or the shot-- and any new people to the program with 3 or more kids would have to submit to a hysterectomy - free ofcourse

I f you give birth to a baby on welfare/medicaid, you should be atomatically be sterilized at hospital, Father of child should be also, mother given extra benefits for this child if she identifies and DNA shows a father to be true. (In cases of denial.) Children are always lossers when their parents are not financially set up to care for them. No one has right to continuoiusly bring children into this world they cannot care for; if you have one child because you can't afford more, makes sense, then you only have one.

My cousin and his girlfriend have 6 kids, and she's pregnant with #7. She's only like 26. They get welfare, plus like $1400.00 a month in foodstamps, and they "sell" almost all of that to have the money...he's lazy and won't work. Makes me SICK!!!!!!!!!!!!!
