don't prune or trim till after flowering is over. most but not all is done mid Autumn early spring. if moving a plant, take as much soil with the root ball as possible an water well. feed only in growing period, put good measure of well rotted compost in hole to give it something good to feed on

I'm not sure why your plants are going into shock but when plants are transplanted sometimes it is a shock to them. They sell a liquid B12 (I believe it is) or some type of application that you pour into the hole before you plant your plant.

Water them more, and more often, and don't trim them so much during the summer.
