I am new at a company and in an office alone all day, everyday. I talk occationally to this one guy, who is also new, and he asked a few times about going to lunch. Is this not appropriate?

Not if each of you pays for themselves. But if either of you are married you should OK it with your spouse and introduce them to your co-worker so they know that there is nothing going on, just a friendly lunch. If one pays for the other, then it is a date and NOT appropriate if either of you are attached. As for dating, if either of you are unattached, then you have to check company policy. Some companies don't care, but some do, especially if one of you is in a supervisory position and it could be viewed as favoritism.

absolutely appropriate. Coworkers lunch together all the time.

I don't think that's what you're really asking. It sounds to me that you think this guy likes you and you are worried about intraoffice dating. I wouldn't worry about it until you know for sure if he is interested. If he is showing definite signs of interest, find out your office's policy on intraoffice dating, then go from there.

Yes, have lunch with him, you've got to make freinds. Just be careful what you say to him till you can trust him. He may turn out to be the office gossip or a good friend, either way, find out.

You don't say whether or not you are married or in a committed relationship, nor did you state whether you felt there was something more to this lunch than just business.

As long as you don't get drunk with him or have sex with him, I think it's appropriate.

i don't see what's wrong with that. if someone found something negative to say, they would be fishing for drama.
