I have a 3 week old, I'm just wondering when I'll get a break from these constant feedings (every 3 hours)

You still have a while. My daughter was 3 months old when she started sleeping through the night.

Hang in there, it could be a very long time, and when the baby sleeps through the night for the first time, it doesn't mean he or she will continue to do so.

Our son would not sleep without being held upright (had bad "colic" - acid reflux) for almost eight months, and had to be fed every 2 hours, day and night, for six months. (He is six years old now, healthy, and sleeps just fine!)

Our daughter was much healthier as an infant, and would sometimes (1 or 2 nights a week) sleep up to 5 hours in a row at night, but not until she was about 7 months old would she sleep a full 8 or more hours at night. Even then, babies sometimes wake at night for no particular reason - but after their first birthdays, you really only need to let them know you're still there, and they'll go back to sleep.

The first 6 weeks is the hardest part of having a baby. You're adjusting to being a new parent and the baby is having growth spurts really close together. (10 days, 2-3 weeks and then 6 weeks. Next one after that is 3 mos.) Once your little one gets past the 6 week growth spurt, you may see him begin to fall into some recognizeable patterns reguarding when he sleeps and how often he eats.

It's normal for a child to continue to night wake for the ENTIRE first year. Keep in mind that they are trying to DOUBLE their birthweight by 6 months. You'd be waking to eat at night too if that was the case! They grow so much in the first year that round the clock feedings are totally normal. And, if you are breastfeeding, keep in mind that breastmilk digests in about 90 minutes!

That said, feedings may begin to space out a bit after 6 weeks and definately after the 3 mos growth spurt. Your little one may not sleep all night yet though and that's still NORMAL. Technically, a 5 hour stretch can be considered "sleeping through the night."

Hah! You won't sleep through the night ever again...even when your baby is "grown up" and moved on. :D

Seriously, all babies are different. My first son started sleeping through at 3 months old. My second son didn't sleep through the night until he was 11 months old. Eventually (I noticed with my two) when they start eating cereal/jarred food, that seems to tide them over and they'll sleep for longer periods, but still not all night. They'll wake up, but only once or twice instead of every couple hours. Most people start their babies on cereal somewhere between 4 and 6 months of age.

My boys are 29 months and 13 months, and I still don't sleep through the night. Not sure why... It started during pregnancy when I'd get up several times a night to use the bathroom, and has continued ever since. I don't use the bathroom constantly anymore (thank God!) but I still wake up once or twice. Usually to check the boys to make sure they're covered up and sleeping peacefully. The only good thing about this is that it's not the same as getting up with a newborn...I get up, check on them, use the toilet if I have to, then I'm zonked back out in bed almost immediately. No more staying up for 30 minutes to feed and change them, then trying to get back to sleep.

I know that all of my friends don't sleep solidly. Even the ones who do sleep without waking are still incredibly light sleepers. (This includes the ones who have kids in college.) Like I said...you'll never sleep through again. :)

This is a loaded question. It really depends on your baby's temperament. Some babies are fairly docile and easy and would be sleeping through the night as early as 2 weeks. But then again, there are babies who are very fussy or high-need right from the start. High-need babies sleep less in general, must be rocked all the time, and naps only 30 minutes at a time. This was my son... very high-need. He woke up up to 5 times a night up until 5 months old. So as you can imagine, I really had no rest. He didn't sleep through the night unil 1 year old. Just hang in there! You're doing what's best for your baby, and that's the most important thing.

each toddler is diverse so dozing by ability of the nighttime varies... many times between 3-6 months.... particularly regularly it coincides with the creation of nice meals (cereal, strained vegetables, pureed culmination)... once you start up introducing new meals for your chids weightloss plan in easy words upload one new nutrients a week so if an allergic reaction takes position it truly is hardship-free to understand what brought about it... An initial allergic reaction would not recommend that child will in no way be able to devour that nutrients it may mean the toddler isn't waiting to digest it and also you'll attempt one better time in a while to introduce the nutrients.. For the first bit after she starts dozing by ability of the nighttime you'll finally end up waking up besides worried because she hasn't woken up... Get a small compact replicate and a small flashlight lined with a clear out (colored celephane will artwork).... once you awaken you should use the flashight and go verify that she remains ok position the replicate infront of her nostril and mouth and such... to guarantee your self that she is only dozing by ability of the nighttime... The replicate and flashlight are so that you do not disturb her sleep even as you're fulfill your accepted worrys...

Unfortunately, every child is different and will sleep through the night when they are ready. My first child did not sleep through the night until he was 3, and my second child was sleeping 11 hours through the night at 4 months. Good luck and if things get really tiring, try the No Cry Sleep Solution by Elizabeth Pantley.

Keep in mind that when the "books" refer to a baby sleeping through the night....that means 6 HOURS STRAIGHT. Not the whole 10 we are hoping for. Sorry hon.
But once your baby sleeps a 6 hour stretch consistently, consider that sleeping through the night.
As far as not having ANY night awakenings at all.....that varies from each child.
My son didn't till he was 17 months old.
And I'm still waiting for my 13 month old duaghter to stop her regular 3am wake-up sessions.

Good luck girl. This is your exhausting initiation into motherhood!

My son breastfeed in the night until he was nine months old. He was 11 months old before he was sleeping through the night. But each baby is different. My mom says I slept through the night at 2 months and well my brother still doesn't sleep through the night. His daughter slept through the night at a month.

At 6 months you can limit the food intake at night. Or just give water. Some people add rice cereal in the last bottle of the night (don't do this until the baby is at least 4 months old). But do what is best for your baby. If she requires food at night at 3 weeks old that's your job as her mom. Its hard but its worth it for a happy healthy baby.
