Yes it can. I had a bottle of Dreft on my washing machine that had never been opened, and it split down the side and all the detergent went in through the lid. It was one of those large ones that have around two hundred oz. in it. Well, the washer was on at the same time, and there was bubbles everywhere. Soon afterword the washing machine blew. The pump went and some other things stopped working too. It was a huge mess.

You can over-soap a machine, but that kind of crap went out with scorching the iron onto shirts and burning the toast.

But, then again, this is Paris Hilton we're talking about. Maybe she is that dumb.

Put too much detergent in and set the water level too high, and physics takes over!

With Paris Hilton, what do you NOT expect to happen?

I cannot picture Pais Hilton a human being.
But, yes that is possible. If you overload the amount of soap this will happen. It will also happen with a dishwasher.

Yes , it happened on the Lucille Ball show so many years ago. Also if you put a whole bag of rice in a boiling pot it will really boil over like crazy. Don't do it.
On a related note, Paris is HOT.

Dumb chicks are so sexy.

Yes, sadly it can. It's called putty way too dang much soap in the washer. My son, in an attempt to help do dishes put Dawn in the dishwasher, not realizing that that was not the right dishwashing soap to use....needless to say we were up to the ceiling in foam.

On most washer's, the cycle will stop when the lid is off.
Older models will continue the wash cycle when the lid is off.

The washer on the show may have been modified for a more comedic effect. I wouldn't put it past them.

Anyways...who the hell cares?
