thats the thing ive already had an mri done! but i dunno if they take the mri at the same angle for meniscus as the acl and pcl but the said everything looked ok! so thats what really got me and the doc but i'll end up playing 1 or 2 games before i talk to the ortho again so i will have it scoped soon but i was wondering about it! but with talking about the sac and that would that require surgery?

well the only reason im worried about the scope is they say that an mri is 90% accurate and my mri was fine! im going back to the orthopadeic in a week and see what he says i just really dont wanna get a scope and have nothing wrong because theres only a 10% chance somethings actually torn

Don't play on it! I tore my ACL, part of my meniscus, MCL and had cartilage damage. The popping noise is most likely torn cartilage and most doc's will want to scope and clean it out. I didn't do that, but if it continues to hurt you should think about it. You should worry since your knee is giving out and that could be that you have some sort of ACL tear (pain in the back middle? did it pop there? can't cut from side to side w/out it giving out? pain? I elected not to have surgery and b/c I had a huge muscle there, therapy got me through and I can still run and play and exercise....just can't do much competitively. I have a brace but it still gives out in that so this is how I am limited. They wanted to put screws in my knee and in the past 10 years this surgery has progressed a lot. If you don't want emergency surgery I would rest your knee and quit whatever you are doing until you have an MRI which can pretty much give you a good idea of what is torn. Most doc's will push surgery, but you need to find out what happened and then decide what is right for you. I hated doc's and surgery so much that I opted not to have it done. In the meantime you should raise it, ice it, and keep off of it.

My friend, if you do not take care of this now, you are going to suffer with it the rest of your life. You may end up, not only being unable to run, but being unable to walk, kneel, or stand, on that knee.... just think about how much of a kink that would put in your life!

Let the doc at least take a look inside. It may not be too late to get you some help with that knee.

I didnt pay attention to the doc, when he warned me I would no longer be able to do factory work, because of arthritis in my spine... I didnt believe him. As a result, there was no follow-up to discover WHY I had that severe of arthritis in my early 20's....I actually lasted 13 years in the factory, but those last 5 years were killers....and I wouldnt have made it then, if it werent for the fact that I was the manager, and not doing the heavy physical labor on a daily basis.

Now, Im 44, and crippled .... seems my arthritis was caused by Gout....which has caused ALL of my joint linings to be worn out. All of my joints are bone on bone...extremely painful.

Take a bit of advice from an old man, and get that knee fixed, before it ruins the rest of your life....even if you have to stop playing for a season or two.... think about it.... is it worth it?

Take Care

Man I hate to tell you this but you should give up football for a couple of years and see how it responds. Keep in shape and work out during this time I hope this works for you. The N.F.L. has the best selection process. The guys that make it to the draft are the ones that got through Pop Warner, High School, and College without a major injury and had all them years of condition and training, without a penny of there own money invested in them.Unlike Baseball who invest in a miner league. But don't take chances. Just get a blow at Joe Namath hobbling around. One of the best and now he can barely walk.

Look dude, I am a girl and did track in high school. One day I was jumping a hurdle and my knee went sideways, I landed on it and that was all she wrote. I have every single symptom you have I have had 3 scopes and now they are talking about knee replacement and I am only 33 years old. I opted for the meds and have been on pain meds for about 15 years now. It sucks, it stops all of my physical activity because of the pain and really messes up my personal life. Get the scope, please stick to your physical therapy, but once they cut on you, you can get arthritis in there and that **** isn't at all funny. Achy, stabbing, pressurized, swelling---I feel once you injure your knees its hard to get it back ever to the way it was. Sorry, just my personal opinion.

With all that popping and grinding and swelling, Mike, I'm betting you've torn either the synovial fluid sac or the coating on the end of one of the bones.

I'd do the scope - you gotta keep that knee for life, and you might as well get it fixed now.

May want to consider a mouse (peice of cartilage broken off- a floater) in the joint. This can be very painful and cause considerable swelling..May even lock the knee joint itself, should it lodge in a certain position.
