They manage to tie up traffic whenever heads of state visit their building. But other than that, no.

That's a good question. I was an International Relations major and I don't even have an answer. I believe that at the time what they were doing was a good idea but in most cases it back fires. Another really good thing to understand is that the UN and NATO are actually platforms for the U.S. America runs just about any major International Organization, except the EU. If the US doesn't care about the cause, or what's going on, then the UN is lost, they have no idea what to do. Now that Pres. Bush has set a standard of going around the UN and the international community, the US really has no need for the UN. I'm not saying this to sound like a stuck up American, I say it b/c it's the truth. Right now America is the world leader so people look to us. If we don't care then they are stuck. We have our attention on something else right now and we support Israel. Plus we hate terrorism (although that can be disputed b/c many nations see us as terrorist) and Hezbollah is considered a terrorist organization.

Actually, the UN is constantly doing good things all over the world. This is not reported in the USA. Recently the UN officially accused the US government of keeping the American people in the dark about UN activities.
The US government is often thwarted by the UN because other countries tend to be more in favor of diplomacy rather than harsher action.
Most of the rest of the world respects the UN and looks to them for help in solving international crisis.

The UN has done one good thing in its history. They voted
for the establishment of the modern state of Israel in 1948.
If they have done anything else to the betterment of mankind
I haven't heard yet.

They have given some so called important people the chance to live in luxury and talk for long periods of time about ideas which will never be carried out.
Does that count?

South Korea is not ruled by Kim Jong Il or his dear departed Daddy,is it? More recently they did make East Timor independent. I'm not saying they couldn't use a makeover or firing a lot of people there, but they're not totally worthless. Just mostly worthless!!:)

Worthless organization. I propose a "World Council of Democratic Countries" instead of the U.N.

Yes, they've managed to waste time and money.
Examples given in every resolution they have ever set forth.
They also hire peacekeepers who have managed to rape more girls than Kobe Bryant and Mike Tyson combined!
