No. Dragons are not the devil. That has got to be one of the funniest things I've ever heard. No doubt it was a bible thumper who stated this. Odd that they believe the devil to be real and dragons to be make believe. How can one equal the other then?
Don't worry. As a matter of fact, the Chinese Dragon is a symbol of good fortune. Great choice.
After thought: I do not mean anything bad about christians in general in my statement. Just the ones who claim to be christian and make these rediculous types of statements. I've heard similar things from the uneducated before.

I saw a special on t.v. showing bones of a dragon found in a cave in Europe. It had a broken sword blade in it. There was also charred remains of a human. I'm a smart man - so seeing this took my breath away!
They further refered to records & myths about the serpent-like water dragon in the orient, the 2-legged, 2-winged drake in Europe, and the 4-legged lizard-like one in... I forgot.
oh, then the fourth scientists consider the most probable as the link between dinosaurs & birds that was scaly, but with feathered wings.
If dragons were devils, they'd still be around to explain the evil in the world.
In the bible's Revelation the 'beast' had 7 heads and no wings or fire breath. The way modern Christians are so superstitious makes me ashamed to have been a Christian before.
(I kept the values - shed the traditions)
Love dragons!!!! Dreamed twice I turned into one! (thrash 2 muggers...went flying..>:)-<

I don't think so. I think dragons were a type of dinosaur that existed through the extinction by being small then evolving bigger. All the stuff about them being conscious is probably based on dragons being smarter than the average lizard. And I think people took over their land and over hunted their forests and all that into extinction.
In short, dragons might have been smart lizards but not fully conscious like a human being, therefore they could not have been a devil.
Ditto about being Christian as "Time". I keep the values, and also most of the traditions, because family partying is just so much fun.

It is my belief that the legends of dragons came about as our primitive ancestors tried to explain the origins of the dinasaur skeletons they found.
Each culture will apply their own spin on it - IE, in some European mythology, the Church managed to equate the legends with pagan worship, which wasn't "christian" and therefore equate dragons with the devil. However, in places like China and the far east, dragons aren't necessarily evil, and can even be considered gaurdian spirits.
In more modern times, games like D&D and the plethora of fantasy works like Harry Potter and Elderath are facing a backlash of religious fundementalists (led by religous zeolots on par with Osama Bin Laden) and thus the perception that some people have that dragons are the devil.
Dragons aren't the devil. People are...

I never believed dragons were bad. but maybe dragons are like humans too, there are bad dragons and there are good ones.
According to a discovery channel show about dragons, they somehow conjectured that dragons might have disappeared because of extinction. Man made them extinct believing these creatures kill their food or farm animals. But since they (dragons) had a hard time finding (or foraging or hunting) enough food (i forgot why) they took to killing man's livestock for survival. but sadly, humans back then only saw it in their own point of view. Probably they aren't that knowledgable or bright enough to figure out or ask why these dragons would kill their livestock; they just resorted to having them killed just like that so they can increase their livestock for more food.
I don't really know if that IS the case. i only half believe it since there is already proof that real dragons existed. They already excavated a mother and child dragon skeleton.
Who knows... maybe the next episode can enlighten us more about the nature of dragons.

Im Wiccan and i dont believe the devil is real, because the Chritians came up with the Devil to scare them into believeing God. Dont get me wrong i believe in God but not the Devil. To give evil a name is to give it power. So if the devil isnt real then why would it be connected with dragons. There were Pagans way before Christianity and the christians came up with a Devil to scare people fom Paganism!!

the Dragon and the Devil coriation comes from the tale of St George vanquishing the dragon. Its an aligory for banishing paganism, just like St Peter driving all the snakes from Ireland is one as well.

I guess anything that attacks and kills would be working for the devil (as in a humans)
I mean, I don't think sharks are in with him. I mean God created them, that's just how they live, they gotta eat. They are not evil.
So if Dragons ever did exist, I don't see them working for the dude downstairs, just how they had to survive.

I think dragons are real in ourselves, and they can be good or evil or animalistic or devilish according to individuals. I embrace my inner dragon as the side of myself that soceity doesnt want to deal with. How people veiw dragons is a reflection of their inner dragon.
Personally, my dragon is a big fire b/tch with a hideous temper, and she hates those who mistreat others.
