If you change the filter it will require 4.5 Quarts to fill it to the full mark. On the 4.3 liter V6 Vortec
5W-30 is the recommended viscosity.

The question is, does it come equipped with a 6 cylinder or v8 engine? There is a difference in how much oil you need. As for the folks suggesting..."hmmm, I think it is 4 or 5 quarts," forget their replies, they're attempting to lead you to the point of "I need to replace my engine." My owner's manual tells me that my 6 cylinder engine requires 7 quarts.

All but one here are morons to this point a TRAILblazer holds 7.0 quarts in the I6 4.5 quarts will cause a catastrophic engine failure per SI GM dealerworld. I hate doing those engines so please don't break it as I am not the only one.

V6 = 4 to 5 quarts.
V8 = 5 to 6 quarts.
MAKE SURE YOU READ YOUR OWNER'S MANUAL & Look at your dipstick when putting oil in your engine.

Unless you have the towing package (an auxillary transmission fluid cooler) then I would worry. If you do have the towing package then just turn off the O/D and drive at will. If you don't have the towing package, turn the O/D off, keep your speed under 60 mph and don't take off real fast from a stop. I would also, change the oil, filter, air filter, transmission fluid and filter and coolant at the least.

What size engine..?
The six-cylinder engine is designed to run cool while towing, thanks in part to a big seven-quart oil pan.
