Not indigenous people or hicks or hillbillies or almish . I mean the people who live in houses like everyone else but shoot animals and eat them instead of buying meat in the stores. I know some of them buy food in stores but a friend of my family says it taste better when you shoot it yourself it's not processed and that. Him and his family and friends do that but i didn't know if there was a name for it or not because one of my friends had asked and i never gave it much thought but now i don't know if they are called anything or not... anyone have any ideas?

With every day pass, our country is getting into more and more trouble. The inflation, unemployment and falling value of dollar are the main concern for our Government but authorities are just sleeping, they don’t want to face the fact. Media is also involve in it, they are force to stop showing the real economic situation to the people. I start getting more concern about my future as well as my family after watching the response of our Government for the people that affected by hurricane Katrina.

According to recent studies made by World Bank, the coming crisis will be far worse than initially predicted. So if you're already preparing for the crisis (or haven't started yet) make sure you watch this video at http://www.familysurvival.tv and discover the 4 BIG issues you'll have to deal with when the crisis hits, and how to solve them fast (before the disaster strikes your town!) without spending $1,000s on overrated items and useless survival books.

We are called hunters.

I believe I am just the sort of person you are describing. I am not a hick nor hillbilly. I am college educated and have a professional career as a software engineer. I live in your basic suburban neighborhood with a wife, two kids, two dogs, two cars, and a mortgage just like most everyone else.

A large portion of the meat my family eats comes from hunting. Not only do I believe the meat is of better quality, but I would argue that it is more moral as well. Personally, I think if you are going to eat meat you should be willing to kill it yourself rather than have someone in the back room do it for you and then present it to you on a foam tray wrapped in plastic.

I also garden as well as purchase most of my veggies from a local organic farm. Once again, better quality with less environmental impact (in harmony with nature rather than in an attempt to dominate it).

I can't claim that all of our meat comes from hunting. However, during a typical year I harvest 2 deer, a couple of turkey, a feral hog or two, and several game birds. This pretty much keeps our freezer full.

They are called "homesteaders" and some take it way more seriously than others. They choose to live this way and in the event of an attack on US soil again, you may wish to know one or two. They get their own water, grow their own food and usually have enuff stored to live for 6 months. They call it living off the grid. They have to depend on no one but themselves for day to day survival. Some hold public jobs, others dont.

They are self-sufficient, meaning they can obtain all they need to live from their own land and their own efforts. Ideally that should even include the power and fuel to run and heat their home, such as installing solar panels, or some kind of mill, wind or water.

Survivalists. However the term "survivalist" has been associated with paramilitary training camps unfortunately. However, gun ownership is your constitutional right. I applaud your responsible right to gun ownership. Don't be irresponsible like VP Cheney. Though many people don't like lawyers, you aren't allowed to shoot one unless your very high up in the Bush administration.
