in book 5 his personality really changed, i was wondering if he was drinking a lot

I know that Sirius didn't really have the nicest life. His family didn't accept him, his best friend died at an early age. He was sent to prison at the age of 22 and has never really had the chance to grow up. He was united with his godson that he hadn't seen since his parents were alive, and looks almost exactly like his father. Sirius Black was a very mixed-up character. He had a lot to deal with. I'm just wondering if he resorted to drinking to get rid of some of his pain.

No he wasn't an alcoholic. He was a man of action being forced into hiding. Grimmauld Place was his family's home and he hated his family because they were dark wizards who believed pure bloods were better than everyone else. Because of his situation he can't have the kind of father/friend/son relationship with Harry that he wants and probably every time he sees Harry, he sees James (his best friend) and relives the trauma of James and Lily dying and Peter's betrayal. Then add the animosity with Snape and it's no wonder his personality changed.

how dare u?!he was somebody who went through a lot in life.must have been in his early 20s when he found his best friend dead because of the secret keeper change by him and then was thrown in azkaban for more than a decade.nyone would be unstable if they had to go through so much.he had been alone and friendless for so long and even when he got out of azkaban had to hide.he just wasnt the kind of person to sit back and let other people do the work. and he cared for harry as much as he had for james but had to stay away from him as well. and because of voldemort knowing bout his animagus disguise he couldnt even go out like he did in book 3 and 4. u try to stay in one place without moving out of the house for even a single month and then tell me how it was.

Think about it. By the time book 5 came around, he had been cooped up in Grimmauld Place for how long? Wouldn't you be unstable and moody if you were cooped up, knowing there was work to be done? Especially if Snape was giving you $hit about it? No, he wasn't a drunk.

It is my belief that the horrors and tortures suffered in azkaban along with the treachery of his once close friend Peter caused the change in his personality for never once did we see him drink nor did he ever show signs of intoxication. He had a clarity of mind to keep his wits about him in tough situations...which a person who drinks wont have . )

You would be a little off too if "You Know Who" was after you, you had spent years in Azkhaban Prison, and the one person who believed in you was in danger. he did sort of take a turn for the worse in book 5. I feel sorry for him though.

Of course, Sirius Black was an unstable man, he was always sad solemn and angry, but of course its no surprise i mean his friend betrayed him, and locked him up for life and had him sentenced to death.
