I try using some other tool but its like stripping the filter cap. Its not your ordinary oil filter cover.

The 2.2L Ecotecs that are on the Cavaliers take the cartridge type filters, not the spin-ons. So, to remove the cap, you need a 32-mm socket. I got mine at the local Murray's Discount Auto, specifically for the 2.2L Ecotec engine according to the package. Worked like a charm on my Cobalt to get the oil cap off, The filter will be attached to the bottom of the cap, which can be pried off. Put the new filter on, then reattach the cap, no more than 1/4 turn with the socket wrench after hand-tighten. Be sure to let the oil drain out of the filter into the cannister before you remove it completely.

Use a 32 mm (1 1/4 in) socket on the hex on the top of the oil filter cap. You can also use a oil filter wrench to get it off if you own one.

They make wrenches especially for oil changes. It's an oil filter wrench. You can buy one at walmart or an auto parts store.

go to the auto parts store and ask them there.
or go to the oil filters and match up the wrench with the filter.
DO NOT GET A STRAP FILTER WRENCH!
THEY SUCK
GET ONE THAT FITS A 3/8 SOCKET WRENCH

adjustable filter wrench $5 any parts store. there are large and small filter wrenches a cavalier should use a small on about 3 inches in diameter adjust from 2.25" - 3.5"
