First you want to get checked out by a doctor, because low weight can be a symptom of some diseases, like diabetes or thyroid problems.

But if you just happen to be more slender than you like you should be able to gain with some thought put into it.

Gaining weight is the same formula as losing weight, just in reverse.

If someone is trying to lose weight they have to burn more calories than they take in, creating an energy deficit.

You are on the other side of the coin.

You need to take in more calories than you burn creating an energy surplus your body can use to build and store.

There is term you should pay attention to called "nutrient density"

Basically for the weight of an item how many calories and nutrients does it have.

On one side of the scale is ice berg lettuce.
1 cup shredded=
8 Calories
0 grams fat
1 gram fiber
6% Vitamin A
3% Vitamin C

On the other side of the scale is something like peanut butter.
1 Cup
1517 Calories
130 grams of fat
15 grams of fiber
11% calcium
27% iron

Since I can't recomend that you reduce your energy output, I guess you will need to increase your Calorie intake.

But that doesn't mean junk food. Try adding in an aditional balanced meal into your day. If you normally eat 3 meals eat 4.

When a person wants to lose wieght they say it takes 3500 Calories to burn a pound. That person has to reduce their intake 500 calories for 7 days before losing one pound of fat.

I'm not sure if it works exactly the same if you need to gain, since hopefully you will gain muscle too not just padding.

So I would try adding an extra meal. And If you like full fat milk and cheese that is fine too as long as you don't have a strong family history of heart disease.

Just remeber to stick to a balanced diet, and fast food is not the answer. We are what we eat. Eat wholesome things and have a well body!

Frequently throughout the day (occasionally), eat a piece of chocolate -- not too much, lest you get obese, but just occasionally. Another I would suggest is Peanut Butter & Vegetables (carrots are my favorite), or peanut butter with waffles (most wrestlers eat this... I did).

Pasta is a quick fix to gaining weight, and not to mention it is a carb that will cause you to stay active athletically, including for running and cross country. It is one of the healthiest diets any athletic performer should have (the caution is do not overdue the red sauce, especially those /w heartburn problems).

There are other ways, but these are the healthiest methods that worked for me.

At 14 you shouldn't be worried about it. You are still growing and all of the food and energy you use goes to growing. Once you stop growing you can work on bulking up with weights, but until then , you aren't going to gain any "good" weight. The only thing you will gain is fat, and you don't want that.

Try eating Slimfast shakes for lunch along with a full lunch meal. A friend of mine did this to gain weight and muscle. Also just keep eating healthy foods, gain weight the right way, don't do it by eating a lot of fast foods.

Protein and carbohydrates. Don't listen to the posts about watching TV all day and just eating fast food, it won't work and you'd just get stuck in that rut and it'd be no good for your body whatsoever. Just make sure you're eating three full meals a day and drinking plenty of water, and possibly try protein shakes?

i also have the same problem of being really thin too. im 5'2 and weigh 94 pounds. have you tried eating more food at meal time? just eating snacks won't work for your metabolism and could possibly mess it up. you can also try getting a daily vitamin that helps with that.don't rush yourself with trying to gain weight unless its a really big problem. some people gain all their weight when they turn fifteen. you shouldn't worry a ton about it.
