You can call them "miserable" because I lost my ability to smell and even went to see an ear/nose/throat specialist for help, but all he could do was prescribe a nasal inhaler which I used but it didn't work. He said it MIGHT have been caused by a bad sinus infection, but I didn't have one. It's miserable because if you can't smell, you cannot taste food, so being hungry doesn't mean anything other than to satisfy the hunger itself; it doesn't matter what you eat because you cannot taste it. You won't even know if the house is on fire or if there's a gas leak because you can't smell anything. It took a long time, almost 9 months, for my sense of smell to return on its own.
