A photon has no mass, charge, or volume. How would you define volume for something that is both a particle and a wave? It just exists. It has a particular energy that corresponds to a particular frequency of vibration, but the wavelength cannot be the volume. Think of the photon as a type of energy field (that happens to be the electromagnetic field) that oscillates in strength in space. The particle part means that the field can be localized to wherever the photon is, but it only localizes when the photon is directly measured. Otherwise, there is no definite location for the photon. It's a wave in space, and it diffracts like a wave (yes, a single photon diffracts), but you cannot say that it has a volume since it isn't in just one location at any one moment in time (until detected, then it goes out of existance as the detector absorbs it). The wavelength being the volume was creative, but not correct. The wavelength is just the energy oscillation in space.

Let's look at the most practical definition of size: putting pegs into holes.

If you try to put a peg into a hole that's too small for it, then either it won't go or you're going to have to break the peg to do it, right?

We can observe the same thing with photons. It's called DIFFRACTION. A diffracted photon breaks up into an interference pattern, while a non-diffracted photon just goes straight through to a single spot. You only get diffraction when you fire photons through a slit smaller than the wavelength of the photon involved.

Therefore, the diameter of a photon is equal to its wavelength in all dimensions, and its volume (by geometry) is 4/3 pi r^2. Thank you.

Some people will try to tell you that a photon has no volume. This is patently ridiculous. If an object has no volume, how can you interact with it? We KNOW photons can interact with things. We also know that each photon does not interact with everything in the universe, nor with nothing in the universe. Therefore there MUST be some radius of effect, some point at which interaction is possible, and beyond which it is not possible, even if that point is only a probablistic one.

Heat is one form of a photon and that has no weight.

Xrays are the same, photons traveling at a different wavelength to heat.

Visible light is another example again light has no weight.

Photons are basically particles of energy traveling at different wavelengths and seen in different forms.

Think of electricity you can see it and use it but it has no volume as such.

A photon is ONE, QUANTUM UNIT of energy. Based on Quantum physics that's the smallest you can divide it into. A photon also has ZERO mass. (Which is why it can travel light speed.) E=MC2 explains it all, when you under stand it. (Mass and energy are different aspects of the same thing basically.)
