If you have access to Windows XP, you can simply boot using your CD and have the installation wizard format the harddrive for you. If you are running Windows 95+, you can use a DOS bootup floppy and use the command,

format c:/

where C:/ is your hard drive

I might be able to assist you with logging in if you can advise what operating system you are using e.g. Windows XP, Windows 95, etc

Several ways. Since you can not log in then get a windows cd and boot with it into windows seetup screen. Once you are in then go through the options to select format (use the second option which is format. Dont use the quick format). After that you can reinstal windows. Now incase you are part of a domain that will install windows for you remotely then to format the disk you will need to remove it from the computer then change the jumper settings on the disk. Most disks will have a simple diagram to show you how to change jumper settings. Its VERY easy. Place the jumper into slave mode and connect to an additional IDE connector on another working computer. Boot into windows then select that disk that is slaved and right click select format. If none of these are applicable to you then if you have a floppy drive, go to www.ultimatebootcd.com and get yourself a free boot disk and boot into dos then use the format command to format your disk. that command is format c:. Make sure though that you have windows cd nearby before all this otherwise you will be in bad shape. Hope that helps......actually i know it will.

You will need a recover CD or a Windows CD. When you reboot with the CD in the drive, then it will take you to the install screen where it will do a setup of your Windows. For XP, just stick the CD in the drive, then reboot and it will let you partition your drivers and then it will format your entire hard disk. Then it will install XP. You do not need to log on to reinstall Windows. Remember, it will remove ALL data from your hard drive.

Do not format unless you have a Windows CD or else you will be left with a computer and no Windows.
