I am an emancipated minor and im 17. ive been on my own, on the road since i was 14. it was very hard. but now i have a great job and my own house. i left home because my mom is an alcoholic and drug addict and so is my dad he is always in and out of jail. it is a very emotional process. but i really think that if your daughter gets emancipated its a bad idea. boot camp sounds better. I hate it when people my age want to get emancipated because they cant do what they want because i got emancipated for the better of my life. i knew that on my own i could reach my goals and finish school with out getting abused. im really sorry to hear about your daughter but emancipation does not sound like the answer for your daughter, the only rights of being emancipated that your daughter will receive is you will no longer have gaurdian ship, she will then sign for herself. she will be able to sue or be sued. and she will pretty much be responsible for herself.

Call your city Juvenile Court. The court will be very interested in her behavior. Tell them how out of control she is. The court will actually bring her in for a hearing, and they have the power to put her under a sort of house arrest. It's extremely effective, and will scare this kid straight like no arguing can do.
I have a friend whose teen daughter was acting the same way- even worse. Going out and not coming back for days. Not calling, hanging with the druggy crowd. This is just what he did. He had the Juvenile court put her under house arrest, and boy, she really straightened out after that.
Good luck, and remember YOU are in charge of your house, not a juvenile, no matter how much she thinks she knows.

my step daughter just emancipated herself when she left her mother's house at 18. She went to live with her boyfreind and his father. I dont know what the laws are but you can contact the child support unit in your town and ask them at what age is the child able to emancipate. Also once she emancipates you do not have to give her a dime. She needs to understand that.

so you are just going to give up huh? its called tough love! where have you been!? she is 16, you are the adult, take some control lock her in her room until she calms down, make her get a job and see what the real world is like, that is so stupid to just give up, theres no excuse for it, you raised a monster time to deal with your consiquesnces... again i say TOUGH LOVE, send her to military school, SOMETHING. sounds like she is a spoiled brat and has been getting her way her whole life. you are the adult not her.

its different from state to state...here in conn where im from a child can legally leave home at 16, and if a parent calls the cops, the cops can only make sure the child is ok...they cant force the child to go home.

It depends on the state. Google "emancipation" and your state. In most states, it isn't difficult if the parents agree to it.
