I have a modem-broadband (Ethernet) from Now broadband , which has been causing me many problems lately... It's a contended service.
1. Getting connected for the first time (i.e. after turning my comp on) isn't usually a problem, it's actually getting on to the internet. Often, internet explorer/mozilla just won't read a page (I get the 'page not found' screen) for every website. Everything is connected fine however, 'network connections' will happily show me the bytes sent and recieved (which is always increasing, suggesting something is being accessed!). Also, if I use my p2p software (for purely legal purposes mind you!), it connects fine and I can download my documents.
2. In order to retify this, I either have to restart my laptop or unplug/plug in the modem, both of which are a hassle!
3. Similarly, once on the internet, often I will be 'kicked off' as described above where I am still connected
Does this happen to anyone else? I've run millions of anti-spyware, etc!
Thanks!

Wow, thanks cuitie1 for all that info! I have run all those programmes tho, and to no avail... It's also a fairly internet-virgin laptop, rarely on the interenet before now and always with zonealarm, avg, xoft, etc. So I'm just stuck! Also, I've tried broadband through a different server on this laptop with absolutely no problems (i.e. through my wireless internet in hotspots, etc.), so I'm thinking it may be my server? No expert though!
