In general SUVs don't get great gas mileage. According to the numbers I've seen in the various car mags I wouldn't expect more than 23 city/27 highway. The Kia Sportage (SUV) will cost more and therefore have a higher monthly note than a small sedan, like the Rio or Spectra. btw...to get a low note you pretty much have to have a perfect credit rating.
About Kia...early Kias didn't have great reliability, but they have improved greatly over the years. They are getting close to Toyota quality. ...same for Hyundai.
There is more involved with the cost of your insurance than the type of car...things like...credit rating, how many vehicles of your model have made insurance claims, driving record, etc. To get an idea of how much your insurance will cost for the car in question I recommend you get a quote from your insurance agent.

I wouldnt trust kia. They might get good gas mileage and are cheaper but thats the problem. Cheap cars made by cheap companies dont usually fair well in reliability.

Read the reviews at Cars.com, or Vehix.com. Then go buy a Hyundai. They have received great reviews and customer satisfaction for the last few years. Kia is at the bottom of the heap.

I've heard a lot of good about Kia. They are now part of Hyundai. A friend has a Sorento and really likes it. Good price and great warranty. 5 yr / 50k mile bumper to bumper. And 10yr / 100k mile power train warranty. And they look good.

Kia's have came leap and bounds, but I would go with a Saturn still, keep it "Made in the USA." Saturn is about the same size. Take Pride in what you drive and who you put to work !!!!
