Try www.which.co.uk or www.computerbuyer.co.uk. Which? provide a chargeable service but you can get 30days free which I'm sure is more than enough time to read their report on buying a PC for home use!

Depends on what your needs are. Unless you are planning to run graphics intensive games and a lot of video you don't need to get a computer with high spec graphics.

I here that they are abandoning PCI and AGP in favour of PCI-Express. So u need to look for a motherboard with pci-e. There are 1,2,4,8, and 16.

And also whether you plan to run windows xp (512mb memory reasonably) or a version of Linux or upcoming Windows Vista -1G reasonable.

. DVDrw R9 comes with most pcs these days.

you also need to decide on hard disk capacity. companies like hush technologies can give you 5TB disks with their machines,if you can afford it, but do you really need it ? Are planning to store a lot of video files?

Do you need a TV card. they seem to be pretty cheap these days. But make sure you get a digital one, as analogue will be turned off very soon.

Some motherboards even come with Firewall(like nVidia 500series) on the ports you use for internet. So you are safe while you are online. And you dont't need separate software firewall. These chipsets also can cope with RAID, like if you set up a raid 5 array of disks and you lose a disk, you simply replace the disk and it rebuilds your lost data. also u get faster reads and possibly writes.

Hope this all helps.

Louis.
