Some really interesting covers are: Wig Wam-I Turn To You (originally by Melanie C), Richard Cheese-Down With The Sickness (originally by Disturbed), Laibach-The Final Countdown (originally by....eh, you know who), The Dreaming-Send Me An Angel (originally by Real Life) and Tool-No Quarter (originally by Led Zeppelin)

I like Marilyn Manson's covers of Tainted Love (Soft Cell) and Sweet Dreams (the Eurythmics); Disturbed's cover of Shout Tears for Fears); Limp Bizkit's version of Behind Blue Eyes (the Who) and Korn's version of The Wall (Pink Floyd). I like the covers better than the originals with the exception of Korn (I do like their cover a lot, but Pink Floyd did it a little better).

I like Eva Cassidy's "Somewhere Over the Rainbow," and Johnny Cash's version of "Hurt." I also like Barry Manilow's cover of the Hollies' "The Air that I Breathe" on his 1978 album. He actually made me appreciate the words of the song.

Then you would like Xorcist's cover of "1999" by Prince, for sure. :) :)

Or Johnny Cash's cover of NIN's "Hurt." (which I happen to love.)

I tend to favor songs that keep their original vibe, but put their own twist on it.

I like Cheryl Crow's cover of "The First Cut" (cat stevens)
I like DMB's cover of "Time of The Season" (Mamas & Papas)
I like The Wallflowers cover of "Into The Mystic) (Van Morrison)

you can't get much more different than Children of Bodom's cover of "Oops I Did it Again" -

or how about Johnny Cash singing "Rusty Cage" by Soundgarden? the first time i heard that I almost fell off my chair in disbelief.
