I think that using violence only teaches violence. I have never spanked my children and they seem to be turning out all right. We do time outs, and groundings once they get a little older. Some parents use spanking, and as long as you are not angry when you are doing it and as long as the child understands why, some parents say it works for them. It has never been my discipline preference.

I believe in it for devil kids but when I babysit my two nephews, I don't hit them, if they don't listen, I just make them sit down and stop whatever activity they're doing. Taking away privileges works for the average kid too. But for my unborn daughter, hell no, I won't spank her, I just can't imagine that, she'll be too precious. I don't think it'll make her spoiled, you can teach kids right and wrong without putting your hands on them. Usually kids that I babysit get right together if I talk to them firmly, some kids are so sensitive that if you look at them and they sense you are mad, they'll straighten up too. I was spanked as a child, sometimes for senseless things and things that weren't my fault so I don't want to continue that cycle. A lot of us Blacks think that's the only way to discipline because that's how most of us were raised and we tend to laugh at parents who prefer "time outs". But if you notice sometimes when you hit some little kids, they'll hit their parents right back, that's human nature if you feel threatened to defend yourself, so what good does spanking really do if a child and adult has to keep going tit for tat until the adult gets so enraged that they end up having to beat the crap out of the child and/or it turns into a case of child abuse.

any parent that believes in spanking is lazy I don't believe in spanking I would not rule it out however. I have three children and have smacked a bottom once or twice when it was called for. I will do it again if its necessary, but if it was the only tool in my tool box, I should not have children. Some people have one tool and its a hammer and that does not work. Fear is not respect fear is fear. I'm not raising puppies I'm raising children. You break a horse or a dog you don't break children.

No. I don't believe that teaching a kid that hitting is wrong by hitting does a darn thing. I have been tempted to spank my oldest, she is just starting into her terrible twos and is driving me nuts, but I just have to stop and think. I always tell my self that could be her first memory, and I don't want her to have the memory of mom spanking her as her first memory.

I think that it depends on the circumstances. When my kids were young,I spanked them if they were doing something that could hurt themselves or others or if they blatantly ignored the rules and did something anyway. If the spanking was given,I tried not to do it when angry. As they got older, the way they were punished changed. Then it was better to put them on restriction. At all times, they were allowed to discuss things with me as long as it was done respectfully. when an attitude appeared, the conversation was over. If they continued anyway, punishment was eminent.Sometimes the discussion would change my opinion, sometimes it would not.I feel like it was fair. I don't feel that I abused them.

I think that disciplining a child by spanking is OK. I was spanked growing up and it didn't hurt me any. There is a fine line between abuse and spanking though...just remember that. I think that these kids that aren't spanked usually become spoiled little brats

Yes I do, I was spanked quite often as a child and I spank all three of my children.

Reserve spanking my child only when it is life-threatening or for harming someone seriously and selfishly,
We found our child hated standing in the corner so we used this for effective behavior changes.
Adult spanking? I think it's only popular in the movies.

I just got a spanking this morning, it was fun. :) But you should never spank a child, that just teaches them hitting is OK. and you might hurt them really bad by accident.
