Yes, David Hasselhoff is a huge star in Germany. His song "Looking for Freedom," recorded with German producer Jack White became something of an anthem at the time of the fall of the Berlin Wall; he sang it from the top of the wall during the reunification celebration. Hasselhoff was the best selling artist in Germany in 1989. He's had over a half-dozen platinum albums in Europe.
He is also very well liked by the Swiss and Austrians.

They love him because he can sing in their language, and he was on Baywatch-a big hit in Europe.
