I was wondering if it goes back to the days of slavery when they were brought over here by boat. Similar to how a herding dog just knows what to do by instinct, maybe it's black intuition. The other possibility is that water is associated with showering, which most blacks don't do regularly. Any help I could get with this would be greatly appreciated.

How ignorant can u possibly be? "Most blacks don't shower regularly" ?! RU that shallow and uneducated? There are unclean people everywhere- regardless of what race they are, but of course u wouldn't know that but you're only subjected to the racist stereotypes that have been bestowed upon you.
And about the "fear" of water...not all African Americans fear water. I especially don't because I love just being in water. The feel of it, the coolness, everything about it.

I'm German, Black, and Indian... I ain't scared of no goddam water... and I happen to shower everyday, thank uUu very much!!! And for the ***** hu mentioned n!gga naps, I'll have you know that my hair's naturally curly when wet.... n the f.a.g.g.o.t. hu said we're scared to get in the water cuz we don't want our skin to become white can kiss my @$$. Interesting that you have done soo much research! You sound like a good candidate to help me solve the problem of why the majority of people (as pointed out by Dr Phil on world wide TV) on welfare in America are white! Now "Jethro" as a good white taxpayer and me as a good Black Taxpayer - We need to see that these shiftless, lazy white ******* earn their keep!

I don't think it's water they fear; they fear ignorance coming from the likes of you, as do I.
If you want help (and I suggest you get some); might I propose that you visit predominantly black neighborhoods wearing a sandwich board sign that says "I'M AN IGNORANT WHITE PERSON WHO DOESN'T HAVE A CLUE ABOUT PEOPLE WHO ARE DIFFERENT FROM ME; PLEASE COME AND BEAT SOME SENSE INTO ME!" and see if that doesn't give you a fresh perspective.

I don't think they are. At least not all of them. I was at a pool in Kentucky, they were jumping off the dive board. But what was funny, 2 grown women, got the lifeguard to save them after they jumped off the diving board!!
