If you are asking a question like you should be, I learned back in the first or second grade that a question mark is used at the end of a sentence to signal a direct question. It's proper punctuation. Doesn't bother those of us that follow directions and actually ask questions in the question section.

Because you are supposed to be asking a question, and considering the grammatical skills of some people on this site, the question mark is the only understandable part of the question

Because they assume anything you write after you click on "Ask a question" will be a question and they add the proper grammer to the end of it. I guess they didn't think a lot of people would write comments or statements instead of questions.

Bea use it is appropriate and correct, and a question requires a question mark at the end. It doesn't really matter that you want it or not!! Try to be correct grammatically and keep your ignorance to yourself.

because you are suppose to ask only "questions". it's probably defaulted that way, in case you forget to type the question mark.
