Yes. It's a reaction to a foreign body in the bladder. Take Detrol.

I took care of a Priest who was in a really bad car accident and I emptied and cleaned his suprapubic cath every night. Sometimes he had spasms real bad and the urine leaked out up by the insertion site. The doctor told him that there wasn't anything he could do about it, bladder spasms are caused by muscles. All people occasionally get spasms, but of course we don't notice anything but an 'urge' I know it is frustrating and messy. Father used to sometimes drink a little Scotch at night and 'he claimed' it helped. I can't really say that it did for sure though. It is normal to have spasms occasionally though. In fact a lot of women have spastic bladders and that's why they have to go all the time! They usually prescribe Detrol for them. Having the cath just makes it a little more bothersome. Just hang in there and remember that they can't help it.
