Say your spouse's family contributed a significant portion of the down payment on a house, since neither you nor your spouse had enough in savings. The spouse's family insists they help you two out and do not expect you to pay them back.

Why,not take the money. This is a great investment for both of you,and if family is willing and can financially help,why not. In,the future you could always refinance your home and pay them back if you like. Just look at the whole picture. What is family for but to help out each other! You are very blessed to have such a wonderful family. Just remember to love one another....Good Luck @ Congratulations!!!!

I wouldn't. I would not want to have them hold that above your heads for the rest of your life. My parents could afford to help me pay for school, when I broke down and let them pay for ONE class I never heard the last of "we helped you so much.." Never again will I let someone help me or my husband with anything money wise.

YOU SHOULD LET THEM HELP YOU IF THAY CAN BUT INSIST ON REPAYING THEM EVEN IN SMALL PAYMENTS OR BY THE HOUSE WHAT A FEW YEARS AND TAKE OUT AN EQUIDY LOAN AND PAY THEM BACK YOU ARE LUCKY YOU HAVE SOMEONE WILLING TO HELP COUNT YOU BLESSINGS

Only if it is loan and there is an expected deadline to pay it back by or else its charity. You have to learn to live within your means....

i WOULD LET THEM HELP US WITH IT BEING KNOW THAT IF WE EVER SOLD THE HOME, WE WOULD PAY BACK THERE MONEY IMMEDIATELY, THEN I WOULD SET UP A SAVING ACCOUNT EVEN IF I JUST PUT IN 10 BUCKS A WEEK, AND I WOULD PAY THEM BACK THERE MONEY, IN THE FUTURE!
