It is a result of the major hormonal imbalance that pregnancy can cause. If she is still experiencing depression, ask her doctor to check her blood insulin level, or check her for low blood sugar - by a 6 hour glucose tolerance test.

Check out the symptoms link at www.hufa.org to see if she has other symptoms of low blood sugar.

Many women suffer from post partum depression (ppd) and it can come any time from a week to 2 years after the birth of a child.

What you need to be aware of is that ppd is caused by hormones and getting back to your pre-preganacy hormone levels. Many women suffer thru this, and it can be a mild depression or very sever depression.

The best thing to do would be to get your wife to the doctor, explain all symptoms and feelings, no matter how trivial or small they may seem, and disucss a treatment plan. This might include hormone supplements, anti-depressants or counseling for the both of you, and changes in diet and excercise.

I understand exactly what you are going through. After 1 month after my daughter was born, I went through a little depression. I thought my whole world was falling apart. I was supposed to be happy but instead I would cry all the time for no reason. I knew something was wrong but I didn't know what to do. I could not control my feelings and then, I finally realized it was hormonal and I told myself I would get through. I cryed when I wanted to and I have to say my husband pampered me and made me laugh all the time. Listen, i really think your wife loves you, just be more understanding with her and if she needs to talk just listen. We're a little screwed up sometimes, but we do love you. I am now enjoying my daughter and husband more than ever. I hope it works out for you and tell your wife to hang on and maybe see a profesional together....
