I generally trust, public officials -- no one has personally betrayed my trust yet. The best protection -- read up on the candidates, then vote. This is how public officials are controlled in a democracy.
Democrats and Independents should realize that Republicans do not want you to vote, and they do not want new voters of certain demographics. You will see many more techniques aimed at preventing registration and voting in the next election since they are less sure of a victory.
Republicans are also trying to promote the ideas that votes don't count anymore, they will be stolen or not tallied anyway, all public officials are untrustworthy, therefore, they argue why vote? This is a slimy devious, anti-democracy, election stealing Machiavellian tactic. They are using all the arguments they can to keep their non base voters from the polls.

I think there are a lot of people who still have trust in the people we have elected to represent us. Is this trust misguided? Perhaps. Is it abused? Yes, sometimes. As a Conservative, I still believe as Ronald Reagan did that "Government is not the solution to the problem, government is the problem." The power that politicians and other public officials gain seems to change them, and all too often corrupt them. . . That being established, it's still the best system of government out there. And, as such, deserves considerable latitude when people make it go astray. .

Public officials are our representatives. When everyone is yelling at Bush they are saying, we as a collective nation made a mistake, so we are as the Europeans so nicely put it, stupid. This is the question that has been asked throughout the last 4 decades. This is not a new one just asked by someone else.

I'm an independant. I lean towards democratic views because they believe in more freedom and civil liberties. The republicans are the war party. They believe in world domination, the new world order, all of that crap. I say I'm just an independant, tax paying, law abiding, veteran citizen that votes for who I think is best, and screw what party their from. NO you can not trust politicians OR the government, it's always been that way, theres nothing you can do about it.

it is hard to trust any of the parties, they all lie. You need to look at the facts and go by their record which is public ! A persons record speaks for itself, This is why I will never understand why people voted for Bush when the man destroyed Texas and anything else he touched !!!
