there are probably more people making a living out of poetry now than there have ever been. there is very little money to be made by publishing poetry - there never was (one of the reasons shakespeare turned to the theatre) - but poets who have established even a slender reputation can find themselves niches teaching modern literature, running creative writing programs, or chairing poetry appreciation weekends and judging competitions.
contemporary writing is very healthy: les murray, geoffrey hill, james fenton and john james are all writing poems as good as any in any other contemporary literature.
and some of the poetry sites for young people on the internet have some extremely promising young talent in shoot.

I read poetry.
A lot of Poe and Dickenson. I sometimes read Robert Frost, and there are a couple of local authors that I like to read. I write a lot of poetry as well.

Yes. In fact, I myself read poetry on occasion. Generally epic poems such as Gilgamesh, Beowulf or Homer.

Yes I do. The big literature prizes often publish anthologies of their winning poems. I like The Forward Prize anthology amongst others.
As for individual poets, I couldn't say, although children;s poet Michael Rosen is very entertaining but also very moving - especially when writing about his late son.
